Brighton Townhouse
Brighton . UK
Once a tired and uninspiring corner of the city, this compact space has been transformed into a vibrant and functional outdoor living space.
The Brighton Townhouse is an ongoing personal project within Stuart’s own private garden, conceived to showcase the untapped potential of small urban spaces. The design is a reflection of his passion for contemporary gardens, purposeful environments and his deep appreciation for rare and unusual plants.
A modern sanctuary in the city, the garden is enclosed by sleek black-rendered walls and slatted fencing, providing both privacy and a sophisticated backdrop to the bold, textural planting scheme. A limestone terrace offers a seamless transition between the home and garden—ideal for relaxing, dining, and entertaining in an intimate setting. This space connects fluidly to a stylish greenhouse, where Stuart cultivates a carefully curated collection of unusual plants, including Sarracenia (pitcher plants), Nerines, and orchids.
This evolving project is a testament to Stuart’s design philosophy: the seamless integration of interesting planting, thoughtful design and functionality. It also underscores his expertise in maximising smaller spaces, proving that even modest gardens can become a haven and an extension of the house, somewhere to relax and entertain.
